Welshman Mike Carter-Jones is a singer/guitarist and prolific songwriter, Liverpool's Mike Nacey is a talented instrumentalist on tenor guitar and mandolin. Nowadays based in Bedfordshire (England) both are a long way from their roots but are still enjoying the music they make. They are an experienced duo mixing folk and jazz influences at local acoustic sessions and folk clubs.

In our session Mike C-J performs some of his songs and Mike N plays some beautifully arranged instrumental pieces. Host Jon Bickley plays some newly written material from a song cycle marking the 100th anniversary of the 1919 Luton Peace Day riots.

Mike C-J has lots of songs on YouTube.

In a return to the successful '3 Songwriters' format first used back in January 2017 host Jon Bickley trades songs and conversation with David Gunawardana and Martin Olyett.

This second session dates from August 2018 where the guys had lots of new material to play and discuss. Indeed they had so much to discuss they reconvened for a third session 4 months later, but more of that another day.

Dissecting songwriters' methods tells us much about how some people perceive and interpret the world around them and turn that view into a musical artform. In our small way Invisible Folk Club are trying to see behind the curtain and achieve a deeper understanding. We'll continue to dissect more songwriters!!!

Both guests have recently released albums.

For Martin Olyett's Strawman album please go to https://invisiblefolkclub.com/contact/ and leave us a message. We'll ensure Martin receives your communication.

Of The Clay are Joe Potter (voc/gtr) & Niamh Bury (voc/gtr & Shruti box), they sing traditional folk songs or songs in the traditional idiom.

They have recently relocated to Dublin but when Invisible Folk came calling they were still living in north Norfolk, that land of eerie shorelines, low horizons and big skies. They had certainly absorbed much of the history and atmosphere of the area, it was reflected in their songs.

Singer/composer Peter Bellamy, a man who spent his formative years in Norfolk, is clearly a significant influence and much discussion ensued about this enigmatic character. Joe & Niamh perform a striking acapella version of Al Stewart's 'Nostradamus' a song also performed by Peter Bellamy.

The beautifully arranged performances captured in this session are mesmerising and intense.

Odette Michell is an English Folk Singer/Songwriter with a fine voice that hints at Sandy or Joni, which is no bad thing! Her finely tuned songwriting is sometimes so convincing that you'll believe it's a traditional song.

Odette found her feet as a performer in and around Cambridge, she even made a couple of appearances on the Club Stage at the prestigious folk festival. Things really began to take off with her first EP By Way of Night in March 2018 which attracted many positive reviews and radio plays. She has since gone on to open for folk legends Phil Beer (Show of Hands) and Martin Carthy, and is embarking on her first national solo tour.

Odette's first full length album The Wildest Rose, produced by Stu Hanna from award winning folk duo Megson, will be out in April 2019 and features musical contributions from Phil Beer and Toby Shaer.

Music video for the single Bless The Ground You Grow On filmed on location at the Chalk Horse and Dragon Hill in Uffington in Oxfordshire can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gc5OXec5hM
