Each month we select a past Invisible Folk Club radio show to air on the podcast channel. Jon Bickley curates and presents the show. Nothing in the broad church of folk related music is off limits.

On our podcast channel you'll find shows where the songs might be longer, where the music is allowed to stretch and breathe. Maybe something a little more challenging.

We know our podcast listeners have the time, space and inclination to play the long game, to allow something to evolve.

Original radio broadcast 30th September 2018:
Gillian Welch - Scarlet Town
Gillian Welch - The Way It Goes
Gillian Welch - The Way The Whole Thing Ends
Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator)
Gillian Welch - Red Clay Halo
Gillian Welch - Pocahontas
Gillian Welch - White Freightliner Blues
Gillian Welch - White Rabbit
Jill Waterson & Ady Shaw - Black Muddy River
Jon Bickley & Only Human - The Leaving
Kris Kristofferson - Quinn The Eskimo
The Band - I Shall Be Released

Gemma Khawaja is a singer based in Norfolk (England) playing traditional songs of the British Isles. The arrangements emphasise the universal stories and themes drawing out the richness and beauty of the old melodies. These are mesmerising and intense performances.

Gemma is also a professional puppeteer based at the Norwich Puppet Theatre where she is involved in both performance and the creation of puppets. As well as performing at a nationally unique venue dedicated to puppetry the company tour regularly. The touring aspect of Gemma's profession has a spin-off in that it creates opportunities for her to visit and perform at local folk clubs across the UK.

Jack in a Barrel are a seven piece acapella group based in Bedfordshire, England. They perform a range of traditional and 'traditional sounding' songs, from standards like John Ball to more reflective numbers such as John Tams’ Devonshire Carol, taking in the odd sea shanty and music hall number along the way.

Acapella trio Coope, Boyes & Simpson have certainly been a stylistic influence and the songs of Peter Bellamy feature significantly in JIAB's repertoire.

They weave a rich musical tapestry with multi part harmonies and sophisticated arrangements. They can create an exhilarating wall of sound, but they are equally at home with the dynamics of more subtle material.
